Dubai is the fastest growing city in the world, and the fastest growing tourist destination.

85% of the cities population of 1.4 million are foreign nationals, making it a cosmopolitan city in which over 140 nationalities are represented.

This makes Dubai a truly international city in which visitors from the west quickly feel at ease.

Although Dubai has some luxurious (and expensive) hotels, the Emirate is a low or no tax society, so shopping is not expensive. Alcohol is available.

The Worlds fastest growing city

It is estimated that one third of the worlds building cranes are currently in Dubai.

Developments include the worlds largest building, the worlds largest theme park and what may be the worlds largest airport.

Most spectacular of all will be three man made islands in the shape of palm trees. The smallest of these, which was opened in 2006 includes accommodation for a population of 40,000 as well as hotels, restaurants and shopping complexes.

Dubai events include the Dubai Tennis Championships (February), the Dubai Desert Classic Golf Tournament (February) and the UAE Desert Challenge (motor sport - held in November).

The horse racing season starts in December. Camel racing starts in October, with racing every Thursday and Saturday.
